MAZARRON COAST

Located in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula, between the regions of Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and Valencia, the Region of Murcia occupies an area of 11,317 km2 (2.2% of the total area of Spain), bordering the north with the province of Albacete, to the east with the province of Alicante, to the west with the provinces of Granada, Albacete and Almería, and to the southeast with the Mediterranean.
In terms of area, the Region of Murcia is the ninth largest of the Spanish autonomous communities. The Region of Murcia is located in the center of the Spanish Mediterranean coastal arch, between the lengths 37o 23 - 38o 45 N and the latitudes 0o 39 - 2o 20 W, taking as reference the meridian of Greenwich
From a geographical point of view, the Region of Murcia stands out for its multiple contrasts: dry vs irrigated, plain vs mountain, coastal vs interior, vineyards vs plateaus, factors that can certainly be attributed to its location in a transition. area between the subbetic mountain range and the northern sub-table. Morphologically, the relief of the Murcian territory is under the influence of the bética mountains and presents an alternation of mountainous sections, valleys and depressions, resulting in extreme altitude contrasts over short distances. Of the total area, most (approximately 45%) is between 200 and 600 meters above sea level; 23% are less than 200 meters above sea level and the remaining 32% is more than 600 meters above sea level.

Murcia has just over 170 km of coastline: coves and small beaches alternate with rocky shores and love steep and steep. As a geographical feature of nature we find La Manga, a coastal strip that, with a few connecting channels, or narrow, completely closes the lagoon of the Mediterranean Minor Sea. The Murcian coast offers unprotected coastlines with seas on the one hand and small coves of calm and placid waters on the other. Sand dunes, beaches, saltwater lagoons, marshes. the Murcian coast includes numerous places of undoubted interest to the naturalistUnsurprisingly, many of them have been declared Protected Natural Areas, places where native species of flora and fauna, such as Sabina Morisca, can still be found today.

Semi-arid subtropical Mediterranean climate: average annual temperature of 18oC, with hot summers (recording absolute maximum temperatures of 40oC) and mild winters (average temperature of 11oC in the winter months of December and January).
The number of days a year with clear skies is 120-150, with approximately 2,800 hours of sunshine per year. In general, rainfall is scarce throughout the region (approx. 300-350 mm / year), falling mainly in spring (April) and autumn (October), leaving summer as an eminently dry season.

The Region of Murcia is characterized by certain climatic differences that may result in variations in the figures mentioned. These variations depend on orientation and exposure to the prevailing winds, distance to the sea and the configuration of the relief.
Due to these factors, temperature differences between the coast and the inland are much more extreme in winter. On the coast, temperatures can never drop below 10oC, while indoors, at higher altitudes, they cannot exceed 6oC. The latter areas have a higher average annual rainfall, which reaches 600 mm / year.
